DataWorks’ NeXT® retail inventory control software coupled with your MICROS® Point of Sale system will manage your inventory, lower your staffing costs, streamline your accounting, increase your profits and allow for real-time sales and inventory updates.
Starting with the MICROS 8700 hospitality system in 1995, DataWorks has been a leader in retail interfaces to the MICROS family of POS systems. Continuing with the 3700 and the 9700, DataWorks has more two-way retail POS interfaces installed than any other MICROS partner.
Your MICROS Menu Items can now be easily defined with Dataworks. We routinely manage systems with 1,000 to 500,000 active retail menu items. Property experts will never again need to touch the MICROS EMC software to manage retail items, NLUs, Barcodes or Prices.

- DataWorks-MICROS Interface Highlights
-
- Revenue Centers (RVC)
- NeXT is designed to scale with your property, whether it is a stand-alone property or an enterprise. The software intelligently communicates with the right store at the right property. Individual Language and Currency needs are centrally administered. DataWorks supports the MICROS’ shared RVC option. The DataWorks- MICROS interface also allows for RVC consolidation and sales rollup.
- Pricing
- Temporary price reductions for slow-moving retail items can be defined in NeXT. Start and End promotion dates will trigger updates into your 3700, 8700 or 9700 without requiring any configuration, SIM scripting, or cashier training. When used with F&B outlets, NeXT can be used to centrally maintain prices for unique menu periods within a restaurant. Pricing from Deli Scales as well as POS scales are also supported in the DataWorks Interface.
- Barcodes
- Manage your grocery and retail barcodes inside of NeXT. Increase the speed of service. Increase the accuracy of the sale. All items in NeXT can have 1 to 99 barcodes, and the MICROS POS scanner will recognize all of them. DataWorks has experience with UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN and random weight UPCs.
- Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)
- Because all purchases, receipts, returns and sales flow through DataWorks' software, we are viewed as the authoritative source on Cost of Goods Sold. Many properties use DataWorks interface as the most effective way to funnel revenue, asset and cost of goods into their general ledger’s income statement and balance sheet.
- Complete Two-Way Control
- DataWorks-MICROS Interface is two-way: NeXT automatically updates it’s retail inventory into MICROS as menu items, and MICROS sales transactions are automatically transmitted back to NeXT. All menu items are created and managed inside of NeXT. The interface inserts the NeXT data into the MICROS system, applying the MICROS hierarchy structure such as Major Groups, Family Groups and Menu Classes.
The DataWorks-MICROS 9700 interface can be configured to poll MICROS sales data in one of two ways: via MICROS’ Transaction Log or with NetVupoint’s MS-SQL data.
Communication timing is site-specific and can run automatically or manually. End of day polling is configured by outlet. The MICROS interface runs as a service, with automatic email to DataWorks support if there are any polling issues.
Enterprise Interface:
When needed, NeXT can communicate across the globe with all your MICROS servers. The POS server management screen allows the user to easily manage who, what and when data is communicated to each property.

Flexibility and control are very important when managing an enterprise system. Properties can run different versions and models of the 3700, 8700 or 9700 POS systems. Each POS System can have its own language, pricing and special legacy hierarchy. DataWorks’ NeXT can handle it all!
DataWorks’ NeXT retail inventory management software interfaces to and supports all versions of MICROS POS Models 3700, 8700 and 9700.
